Job Title: Stewardship & Program Support
Terms: part-time, temporary contract, 16 weeks, 24-30hr/week, dependent on funding

Start Date: February 4th, 2026 – May 20th, 2026 (end date flexible)
Salary: $19.25 – $20.70 / hr

 

Are you inspired by engaging equity-denied youth in land-based stewardship and urban rewilding? Do you want to gain experience and learn about land stewardship, land-based education and native plant horticulture?  We’re looking for someone to step into the Stewardship & Program support role to support our nursery operations, participate in land stewardship, and support our land-based education programs.


Responsibilities 

  • Assist with the organization, watering, potting, and care of plants in EYA’s Native plant nursery
  • Support with  preparation and coordination of EYA’s community plant gifts and Native plant fundraiser programs by making labels, organizing plant bundles, and maintaining clear records of plants on database
  • Support community giveaway events by distributing plants to community members
  • Help to maintain and improve EYA’s stewardship sites through weeding, watering, invasive plant removal, and planting
  • Participate and support site visits to EYA’s stewardship sites with the Sites & Stewardship Manager
  • Help to facilitate youth programs – lead hands-on educational activities, support with the set up and take down of programs 
  • Build skills in land-based education through active participation in EYA employment skills workshops
  • Help create a supportive team environment through peer mentorship with other team members and supporting engagement
  • Support the development and updating of new EYA educational materials and systems
  • Help process and organize EYA’s plant medicines and seed inventory
  • Help to maintain organized program and stewardship supplies in EYA storage areas
  • Follow EYA’s safe work practices – e.g. safe use of gardening tools
  • Increase your knowledge of native plant horticulture and land stewardship
  • Other activities as identified by the Sites & Stewardship Manager

 

Requirements

  • Able to work outside in all-weather conditions doing full days of physical work
  • Able to safely use landscaping tools, hammer, saw, etc. 
  • Able to work responsibly and safely in urban parks and gardens
  • Excited to learn more about plants and wildlife 
  • Good teamwork & communication skills 
  • Committed to doing your best work
  • Personal values fit with EYA mission and culture
  • Satisfactory criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check 

 

Assets

  • EYA program alumni
  • Experience in ecological restoration, horticulture, and/or agriculture 
  • Knowledge of local native plants and ecology  
  • Familiar with the Downtown Eastside and Strathcona neighborhood

Working environment

The Stewardship & Program support will be supervised by the Sites & Stewardship Manager and collaborates closely with other members of the Programs and Sites Teams.  This role interacts with youth participants, community members, and program guests, including Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers. The position requires working at EYA’s sites most days,  including Strathcona Park and Renfrew Ravine. When not working at a program site, this role can access EYA’s office in Vancouver’s Strathcona neighborhood, or work from home. Some hours will be in the evening or on weekends.
