Since 2018, EYA has been leading a Land Guardians Program for youth based at in Strathcona Community Gardens. This program is a partnership with the Urban Native Youth Association’s Cedar Walk and Aries alternate school programs for Indigenous youth. These youth play an active role in growing native plants in our nursery from seed to seed. Engaging in hands-on activities guided by Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers and EYA facilitators, youth build relations, make medicines and prepare foods with native plants of Coast Salish territories. They also contribute to supporting and monitoring biodiversity, through habitat restoration projects and invasive plant removal. Through the program, youth are given the opportunity to connect with nature and cultural teachings while building life skills and growing as leaders in their communities.
Since the Land Guardians program is a partnership program, it is not open for registration.
