Winds of Change

THE EVENT In December 2005 a wind storm reaching 119 km/h leveled over 10,000 trees in Stanley Park, one of the global jewels of urban parks. In two short hours this 243 hectare park, located in Vancouver Canada, lost more than 45 hectares of trees, costing the city over $9,000,000 in restoration.
THE WAKE UP CALL As reassurances were given that storms such as these are naturally reoccurring phenomena, the public was left to wonder how climate change might increase the severity of storms and other threats to our urban forests.
