Community Celebration & AGM

Hoping to make a home for wild pollinators in your garden this year? Looking for native plants to add luscious green amongst the flowers? Or maybe you’re tired of the long winter and want to spend some time getting your hands dirty rewilding your local community garden!

Join us on March 25th from 12:30 – 4 pm at the EcoPavillion in Strathcona Community Garden. We’re hosting a wild pollinator workshop, giving away plant guilds by donation, and also spending a little bit of time giving back to nature by rewilding the Strathcona Community Garden. We’ll also be hosting our 2017 AGM. This event is open to everyone. FREE!

Dress for the outdoors! Last year’s event booked up quickly – save your spot now!

12:30 PM – 1:00 PM   Native Plant Give Away (by donation)
Take home a collection of native plants for your garden grown by our Native Plant Nursery Youth Internship participants. With the help of EYA staff and volunteers, choose from four Native Plant Guild Collections to best suit your site: Shade Forest, Edgelands, Pollinator Meadow, Food Forest.

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM   Wild Pollinator Workshop
Have you stopped to ponder whether that stripey yellow bee you saw visiting a flower the other day might not be a BEE at all? Join us in a game that explores the differences between bees and their common copycat counterparts. Expanding to the greater realm of pollinators, we will have specimen collections on display for you to peer at and ponder over. Weather depending, we hope to wrap up our session with a Pollinator BioBlitz to find out who’s visiting the flowers in Strathcona Community Garden.

2:00 PM – 2:15 PM   Annual General Meeting
Free food and drinks will be served!

2:15 PM – 4:00 PM   Rewilding Strathcona Garden
Help us plant hundreds of native plants, trees, and shrubs in a newly rewilded natural area in Strathcona Garden to enhance wildlife habitat and urban biodiversity. EYA will provide tools and gloves. Dress warmly and wear raingear if it’s wet. Meet at the Ecopavilion at 2:15 PM and we’ll walk down to the site in southeast corner of Strathcona Community Garden (Malkin Ave at Hawks Ave).

4:00 PM Native Plant Pick-Up
If you attend the rewilding activity, you can pick up your selected plant guild afterwards. Just stop by the Ecopavilion on your way home!
